Hospice volunteers serve as a caring friend to terminally ill patients and their families throughout the period of illness and bereave ment. Quilt Show 6 98 to be presented by homemakers Brunswick County Extension Homemakers will sponsor Quilt Show '98 on May 9-10 at the Brunswick County extension office at Bolivia. There will be an admission fee of $1 to the show. Quilters are encouraged to enter quilts either forjudging or for dis play only. Categories include: First quilt, applique, machine quilted, hand quilted, wall hanging, crib quilts and wearing apparel. Anyone who has an antique quilt with historical or family back ground they would like to share is invjted to place it on display. Entries should be brought to the Cooperative Extension Service office at the Brunswick County Government Center between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on May 6 or May 7. Detailed information on rules of entry and entry forms are available by calling 253-2610. There is no charge forjudging or display. A raffle quilt made by Anna Day will be awarded to the holder of the winning ticket; $1 donation tickets are available from any member of the extension service and also at the door. Proceeds from the quilt show and raffle will be used by extension homemakers in their various chari table activities. A home-cooked dinner, featuring meatloaf, will be served at the Town Creek Township District Park com munity building from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 24. Local candidates will be on hand to meet constituents. Cost of the meal will be $5 for adults and $3 for children and take out plates will be offered. Early childhood videoconference A “town hall meeting” for parents and the community hosted by Gov. Jim Hunt and early childhood expert Dr. T. Berry Brazelton will be broadcast at Brunswick Community College on Thursday, April 23, noon to 1:30 p.m. Participants may interact with Hunt and Brazelton via video cam era, microphone and computer mon itor. Bridge results Winners in last week’s games of the Oak Island Duplicate Bridge Club have been announced. Monday winners were: first, Jules and Barbara Guth; second, Bob Moeller and Paul Toy; third, Sally Briggs and Irene Marshall. Wednesday winners were: first (tie), Betty Johnson and Paul Toy, Vern and Norma Hutton. School yard sale L&L Montessori School will sponsor a yard and bake sale on Saturday, April 25, 8 a.m. until noon at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Thirty families will be represent ed, selling furniture, books, tools, toys, clothes and miscellaneous items. VFW hosts dinner Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10226 of Oak Island is now serving Friday and Saturday dinner. The Ladies Auxiliary will serve ribeye steak dinners with all trim mings for $6, other special meals are available. Meals are served from 6 to 9 p.m. Eat-in or carry-out din ing is available.
